Why Can't I See My Own Facebook Ad? 5 Reasons
Why can't I see my own Facebook ad in my feed?
Meta does not show your ad to you because you paid for it. Each impression is auctioned among people in your audience, and your ad wins where Meta predicts your chosen result. Confirm it is Active in Ads Manager, then find it in the Ad Library or use View on Facebook, which puts it in your feed for 10 minutes.
Not finding your ad while you scroll is normal, and on its own it says nothing about whether the ad works. Meta decides who sees each impression by auction, and the auction favours the people the system predicts will take the result you chose. What matters is whether the ad is live and reaching other people. You can confirm both in Ads Manager, then look at the ad itself in the Ad Library or a feed preview.
Is my Facebook ad actually running yet?
Check this first, because a new ad can be approved and still not have served a single impression. Meta’s delivery status guide lists the stages an ad passes through:
- In review: Meta is checking the ad against its Advertising Standards. It starts running after it passes.
- Processing: your latest edit is being applied. Meta says this usually takes a few minutes and can take up to 8 hours.
- Preparing: the ad passed review and the delivery system is matching it to a bid and audience. It moves on after its first impression.
- Scheduled: the ad set has a future start date.
- Learning or Active: the ad is delivering.
Meta’s campaign troubleshooting page adds that you may need to wait up to 24 hours to see delivery. To read the status:
- Open Ads Manager and click the Campaigns tab. Check the Delivery column for each campaign.
- Click the Ad sets tab and check the Delivery column again. A campaign can read Active while one of its ad sets is off.
- Click the Ads tab and check each ad. Hover over any warning or error to see what Meta says is wrong.
- Add the Reach and Impressions columns (Columns, then Customize columns). If both are above zero, the ad is serving to someone.
If the ad shows Rejected rather than a delivery stage, read Facebook ad rejected, how do I appeal? before you change anything.
Why doesn’t Meta show my ad to me?
A live ad can still skip you. Here are five reasons, with the Meta rule behind each one.
| Reason | How to check | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| The ad is not delivering yet | Delivery column reads In review, Processing, Preparing or Scheduled | Nobody is seeing it yet, you included |
| You are outside the audience | Compare your age, location and audience exclusions with the ad set’s Audience section | Only people in the target audience are eligible for the auction |
| The auction prefers other people | Read the ad set’s performance goal, such as purchases | Meta weighs each person’s estimated action rate for that goal, so people likelier to act win the impression |
| The budget reaches a slice of the audience | Compare Reach with the estimated audience size shown in the ad set | Meta says actual reach depends on budget and performance |
| The ad runs somewhere else | In Ads Manager, click Breakdown, then By delivery, then Placement | Advantage+ placements can serve the ad on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Audience Network or Threads |
The auction decides who sees each impression
Meta runs an ad auction every time someone is eligible to see an ad. Only ads whose target audience includes that person compete. The winner is the ad with the highest total value, which combines the advertiser’s bid, the estimated action rate (how likely this person is to take the result the advertiser chose) and ad quality. If your campaign optimizes for purchases, the system looks for people likely to buy. If the system predicts you are less likely to buy than other people in the audience, the impression goes to one of them.
Small budgets reach a fraction of the audience
The audience size Ads Manager shows during setup is not a forecast of who will see the ad. Meta says estimated audience size should not be read as the number of accounts that will view your ads, and that the number you actually reach depends on your budget and performance. A $20 daily budget against an audience of several million reaches a small share of it, so the odds that your own account is in that share are low.
Placements can take the ad off your Facebook feed
With Advantage+ placements on, Meta can show the ad across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Audience Network and Threads. An ad that serves mostly in Instagram Reels will rarely appear in your Facebook feed, even if it is doing well.
You may have hidden ads from your own Page
Meta’s advertising principles note that anyone can hide an ad or block ads from an advertiser through the menu in the corner of the ad. If you or a teammate ever hid ads from your own Page while testing, those ads stop reaching that account. Check your ad preferences if you suspect this.
How do I see my live ad without scrolling my feed?
Use the tools Meta built for this. They show you the live creative without waiting for the auction to pick you.
- Go to Ads Manager, click Ads, select the ad and click Edit in the menu above the table.
- Click Advanced preview to see the ad in each placement it can run in.
- Click the share option in the preview and choose View on Facebook. Refresh your feed on your phone; Meta says the ad then appears in your feed for the next 10 minutes.
- Copy the preview link from the same menu to send a colleague a preview that works for 24 hours.
- Search your Page name in the Meta Ad Library to see every active ad your Page is running.
Meta’s published-ad preview guide describes these options and notes that the ad you see this way is only a preview, not an ad delivered to your feed. The preview feature is only available on a computer, and some options depend on your objective, format and placements.
Can I check my ad in the Ad Library?
Yes. Meta says the Ad Library contains all active ads running across its technologies, and anyone can search it by keyword or Page name. Open the Ad Library, pick a country with the country selector, and search your Page name. Each ad shows its creative, the date it started running and whether it is active. If an ad you expect is missing there, it is not running, and the Delivery column will tell you why.
Does not seeing my ad mean it isn’t working?
No. Judge the ad by its reporting, not by your feed. Reach counts the accounts that saw your ad at least once; impressions count every view. If both are growing and spend is moving, the ad is delivering to the audience Meta chose. If spend stays at zero after 24 hours, you have a delivery problem: work through why are my Facebook ads not delivering? and why are my Facebook ads not spending their budget?, or start from the delivery and spend hub.
FAQ
Why do my friends see my ad but I don’t?
They may match the audience and look likelier than you to take the result you chose. Each time an eligible person could see an ad, Meta picks the ad with the highest total value for that person, and estimated action rate is part of that value. Your friends may also use Instagram more, where Advantage+ placements may be sending much of your budget.
Should I target myself so I can see the ad?
No. Adding your own location or interests to the audience changes the ad set, and Meta treats a targeting change as a significant edit that can send the ad set back into the learning phase. Use View on Facebook from Ads Manager, which shows the ad in your feed for 10 minutes without touching delivery.
Why can’t I find my ad on my Facebook Page?
Ads Manager can create Page posts that never appear on your Page’s timeline or in feed, so that you can test creative without posting every version. Scrolling the Page will not find those ads. Search your Page name in the Ad Library instead; it lists every active ad your Page runs.
How long after publishing will my Facebook ad show?
Meta says to allow up to 24 hours for delivery to start. The ad moves through In review, then Preparing, and starts delivering after its first impression. Edits can add a Processing stage, which usually takes a few minutes and can take up to 8 hours.
