How should I test Facebook ad creative?

Short answer

Change one thing at a time. Meta recommends A/B tests that vary a single variable and run at least 7 days, up to a 30-day maximum. Keep the ad count modest: when too many ads run at once, each delivers less often and fewer exit learning, so Meta suggests fewer ads per ad set, each with varied assets.

Meta's A/B testing tool can compare creative, audiences or placements, and Meta suggests starting with a single variable for the clearest read. Give the test an audience that no other campaign is using at the same time, since overlapping audiences can contaminate the result, and a budget big enough to produce a clear winner. The posts below cover how many ads to test, how to judge a winner on thin data, which formats to try, and where the next concept comes from. When a winning ad starts to tire, see the creative fatigue guide.
