Facebook Ad Rejected? Reasons and How to Appeal
Facebook ad rejected, how do I appeal?
If you think Meta got it wrong, open Business Support Home, select the ad account, tick the rejected ad and click Request review. Meta aims to decide within 48 hours and allows one re-review per ad. If the ad does break a rule, edit it instead: an edited ad is re-reviewed automatically.
A rejection notice leaves you two honest moves. If the ad really breaks one of Meta’s rules, change it and let it go back through review. If Meta misread it, ask for a second look: re-reviews lean more on human reviewers, and asking costs you nothing in account standing. The two moves to avoid are deleting the ad, which can cost you the review, and pushing out copies, which does not clear the original violation.
Why was my Facebook ad rejected?
When an ad is rejected, Meta emails you (if notifications are on) and links to Business Support Home, where the notice names the policy (How to troubleshoot a rejected ad). Review covers the image, video, text and targeting, and also the landing page (Meta Advertising Standards), so the cause is not always in the creative. Six rejection reasons that apply to ecommerce ads, with the page that holds each rule:
| Reason in the notice (links to Meta’s rule) | What usually triggers it | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Personal attributes | Copy that implies you know the viewer’s health, money, age or identity, such as “Do you have diabetes?” | Make the product the subject. Meta’s own allowed example is “New diabetes treatment available” |
| Health and wellness | A weight-loss, supplement or cosmetic ad shown to under-18s; a claim to cure a disease Meta lists, such as diabetes; a close-up pinching body fat | Set the ad set to 18+, cut the cure claim, swap the image |
| Prohibited commercial practices | Deceptive pricing, unauthorized endorsements, a product that differs from the ad, subscription terms not disclosed | Make the landing page match the ad and show subscription terms before checkout |
| Social issues, elections or politics | An ad that discusses a social issue, such as climate change, run without authorization and a “Paid for by” disclaimer | Get authorized, or keep the ad on the product |
| Special ad category not declared | A credit, banking, insurance, investing or 0% APR instalment offer shown in the US without the Financial products and services category | Declare the category on the campaign and accept its targeting limits |
| Drugs and pharmaceuticals | Prescription drugs or CBD promoted without Meta’s written authorization | Get Meta’s authorization (CBD sellers, online pharmacies and telehealth providers need LegitScript certification first), or drop the product from the ad |
Two of these have their own guides: why was my Facebook ad rejected for personal attributes? and why was my Facebook ad rejected for unacceptable business practices?. On social issues, Meta says an ad whose main purpose is selling a product may not need authorization, unless it mentions politicians, parties, elections or legislation (How ads about social issues, elections or politics are reviewed).
How do I request a review of a rejected Facebook ad?
Request a review only when you believe the ad complies. Meta’s steps (How to troubleshoot a rejected ad):
- Open Business Support Home. Meta says it replaced Account Quality, and the Advertising Standards still link it as facebook.com/accountquality.
- Select the ad account or catalog that holds the rejected ad.
- Select the ads, ad sets or campaigns you believe were rejected incorrectly.
- Click Request review, then Submit.
- Track the decision in Business Support Home. Meta aims to review and decide within 48 hours.
What Meta says about the second look: re-reviews rely more heavily on human reviewers, requesting one “will not hurt your standing”, and a rejection that is overturned does not count as an ad violation. If the ad is rejected again, it stays rejected and you cannot request another review for that ad.
If Meta flagged a product ad as a social issue ad by mistake, it gives a separate route: in Ads Manager, select the campaign, then the ad set, then the ad, and click Request review, or use Meta’s appeal form (How ads about social issues, elections or politics are reviewed).
Should I edit the ad, make a new one or appeal?
Pick the move by what is actually wrong, not by which button is closest.
| Situation | Best move | What Meta says happens |
|---|---|---|
| The ad breaks a rule you can now see | Edit it | The edited ad is submitted for review automatically, but the original violation stays on the account |
| Meta misread a compliant ad | Request review | An overturned rejection does not count as a violation |
| The ad type cannot be edited | Create a new ad and keep the old one | Deleting a rejected ad may cost you the right to request a review |
| Your review came back rejected | Edit it or build a new ad | No second review is available for the same ad |

What happens if my appeal fails?
The ad stays rejected, and the only routes left are a compliant edit or a new ad. Fix the element the notice named in every other ad that shares the same copy, image or landing page, because the same rule applies to them. Meta warns that for severe or repeated violations it can go beyond rejecting ads and restrict your business account, ad account, Page or user account from advertising (How to troubleshoot a rejected ad); the restriction types are set out in About advertising restrictions.
What if my whole ad account is restricted?
A restriction is a separate decision from an ad rejection, with its own review. Meta’s steps (Request a review for a restricted advertising account):
- Open Business Support Home and select Account status overview in the left menu.
- Select the restricted account.
- Select Request review in the What you can do section.
- Complete the on-screen steps. Only an admin on the account can request the review.
Meta says this review typically takes 48 hours and can take longer, that you can request a restriction review only a limited number of times, and that the decision is then final. If the account is reinstated, ads that were running do not restart on their own: turn them back on in Ads Manager. How long does Facebook ad review take?
Meta says most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, sometimes longer, and that ads can be reviewed again after they go live (About ads in review). Editing an ad’s targeting, creative, optimization or billing event sends it back into review. Changing the bid, budget or schedule does not. If a review seems stuck, read does a long Meta ad review mean my account is flagged? before you touch the ad.
Can software help?
Bach.ai connects to your Meta ad account, audits it and estimates the revenue impact of what it finds. Its audit reports a disapproved ad as a policy blocker, separately from delivery stops such as billing, so a rejection is not mistaken for weak performance. It applies changes on Meta only after you approve them. For the wider account review, work through the Meta ads audit checklist.
FAQ
Does requesting a review hurt my ad account?
No. Meta says requesting another review of an ad will not hurt your standing, and a rejection that is overturned does not count as an ad violation. What does count is the original violation when the decision stands, so request reviews for ads you can defend rather than for every rejection.
Can I appeal the same Facebook ad twice?
No. If the ad is rejected again after your review request, Meta says it stays rejected and you cannot submit another review request for the same ad. Your options then are a compliant edit, which is reviewed automatically, or a new ad built without the element the notice named.
Should I delete a rejected ad?
Not if you might appeal. Meta warns that deleting a rejected ad may cost you the ability to request another review, because it may no longer have the information it needs. Deleting also does not remove the violation from your account, so leave the ad in place until you have decided.
Why was my ad approved and then rejected?
Approved ads stay subject to review. Meta says it re-reviews ads at random, when people hide, block or report them, and when an ad gets unexpectedly high engagement, and it only tells you if the ad breaks a rule (Why some ads are approved, then rejected). Editing a live ad also sends it back through review.
Can I open a new ad account instead of appealing?
Don’t. Meta lists creating new ad accounts or other business assets to repeat violations, after an account was disabled, as evading enforcement, which can lead to restrictions on the business portfolio, ad account, Page or user (Common examples of Meta advertising policy violations). Fix the cause and use the review route.
