How to Add a Discount Offer to Facebook Ads (2026)
How do I add a discount code offer to my Facebook ads?
Use Meta's promo codes feature: create a Sales campaign with a website conversion location, then at the ad level tick Promo codes under Promotions and let Meta source your codes, or add one with its amount, cap, condition and dates. Traffic, engagement and leads ads can show offer details through Ad sources instead, up to 20 offers.
You no longer have to bake a discount code into the image. Ads Manager has a promo codes setting that shows your code on the ad and, where it can, applies it at checkout for the shopper. Other objectives can show offer details pulled from your website. Both are optional settings at the ad level, Meta says offer details may not be available on every account yet, and neither fixes the margin maths of the discount itself.
Does Meta still let you add a promo code to an ad?
Yes. Meta describes two features in its Help Center on 2 Oct 2026:
- Promo codes, for Sales campaigns with a website conversion location. Meta finds your active promotions, shows a relevant one on Facebook and Instagram ads, and applies the code automatically when the shopper checks out on your website in the in-app browser. Where it can’t, the code is highlighted for the shopper to copy and paste (About promo codes in Meta Ads Manager).
- Offer details, for traffic, engagement, leads and sales ads with single image or video. Meta shows details such as “20% off” on a part of the ad, for example the call-to-action button (Showcase your offer details in ads).
Meta reports that campaigns with promo codes enabled showed a 4.6% average lift in conversion rate for small and medium businesses, from its own randomized experiment on 675,000 ads between 25 Dec 2024 and 7 Jan 2025. That is Meta’s figure for its own feature, measured over a holiday fortnight, so test it on your account rather than bank it.
How do I add a promo code to a sales campaign?
Check first that your Meta pixel is on your website, active, and sending standard or custom events. Then follow Meta’s steps (About promo codes in Meta Ads Manager):
- In Ads Manager, click Create, choose the Sales objective, and leave Advantage+ catalog ads on or turn it off.
- With catalog ads off, set the conversion location to Website, or Website and app, and pick a conversion event such as Purchase; with catalog ads on, Meta picks the location.
- Keep Advantage+ placements, or include at least one of Facebook or Instagram feed, Reels, Stories, Marketplace, Facebook video feeds or Instagram Explore.
- At the ad level, open Destination and set Browser add-ons to None.
- In Ad creative, tick Promo codes under Promotions for an image or video ad, or under Highlight your promotions for a carousel or dynamic ad.
- Choose Automatically source codes, or Manually select a code and click Add a code.
- Enter the code, the offer amount, and optionally a maximum discount, a condition and start and end dates, then click Publish.
Automatic sourcing pulls codes from your ad creative, existing ads, your website and any offers synced to Commerce Manager. When several codes qualify, Meta shows the one it predicts will get the most response. Click Manage promo codes to open the offer management tool, where you can exclude codes you don’t want shown. Meta says edits there apply one ad at a time.
How do I show a discount on traffic, engagement or leads ads?
Use the offers feature in Ad sources. Meta’s steps, which differ slightly by objective (Showcase your offer details in ads):
- In Ads Manager, click Create and choose Traffic, Engagement, Leads or Sales; for Sales, turn Advantage+ catalog ads off.
- In the ad set’s Conversion section, select Website as the conversion location.
- In Ad setup, choose Manual upload and the Single image or video format.
- Under Ad sources, enter your website URL in Source URL so Meta can find offers on the page.
- Click Review and confirm to keep the offers it found, or click Set up manually to add one.
- Pick the offer type, enter the amount, an optional promo code label and optional dates, then click Add and Save.
The manual offer types are percent discount (fixed amount), percent discount (up to amount), cash discount (fixed amount) and cash discount (up to amount). Meta says the cash discount types currently support only US dollars, and that the call-to-action button with offer details appears only on single-media ads in Instagram Stories.
Which discount option fits your campaign?
| Option | Campaign objective | Where you set it | Limits Meta states |
|---|---|---|---|
| Promo codes | Sales, website or website and app conversion location | Ad creative, Promotions, Promo codes | Pixel must be active; offer edits apply per ad |
| Offer details | Traffic, engagement, leads, or sales with catalog ads off | Ad setup, Ad sources, Source URL | Up to 20 offers; cash discounts in US dollars only |
| Shop offers | Shops ads | Commerce Manager, Offers | Amount off, sale, free shipping, buy X get Y or free gift; may not be available to you yet |
| Code in the ad text | Any | Primary text or creative | No misleading or unreasonable pricing |

Should the discount also apply itself on your store?
Make it as hard as possible for the code to go missing between the ad and the checkout. Meta’s auto-apply works only in the in-app browser and only where it is available; otherwise the shopper copies the code. On Shopify, a shareable discount link applies the code without typing: in Shopify admin, open Discounts, click the discount, click Promote, then Get a shareable discount code, and copy the link. Shopify says the discount then applies automatically to the customer’s next checkout (Managing discounts). Use that link as the ad’s website URL, then place a test order through the ad preview before spend goes live.
What does a discount do to your ROAS target?
It raises it. Every order now brings in less revenue while product, shipping and fees stay the same, so the return on ad spend you need to break even goes up. Work the new floor out before launch with how does a discount code change my break-even ROAS?, and if you want to avoid training buyers to wait for codes, read how do I recover abandoned carts without offering a discount? The ad spend calculator shows the break-even ROAS for a given gross margin, so enter the margin after the discount.
FAQ
Why don’t I see the promo codes option in Ads Manager?
Check the setup Meta requires: the Sales objective, a website or website and app conversion location, Browser add-ons set to None, at least one supported placement and an active pixel. If Automatically source codes is unavailable, Meta could not find your codes and selects Manually select a code instead.
Can Meta show a promo code I don’t want on my ad?
With automatic sourcing, Meta collects active codes from your creative, existing ads, website and Commerce Manager, and shows the one it predicts will perform best. Use Manage promo codes to open the offer management tool and exclude codes, or switch to Manually select a code.
How do I turn promo codes off on an ad?
For a static image or video ad, untick Promo codes under Promotions in the creative setup. For a static carousel or dynamic ad, untick Promo codes under Highlight your promotions in the Ad creative section. Meta lists both steps in its promo codes help article.
Does Meta apply the discount for the shopper?
Sometimes. Meta applies the code automatically when the shopper checks out on your website in the Facebook or Instagram in-app browser. When auto-apply is not available, the code is highlighted so the shopper can copy and paste it at checkout. A store-side discount link removes that step.
