Ad Rejected for Unacceptable Business Practices?
Why was my Facebook ad rejected for unacceptable business practices?
Meta's current Advertising Standards list no policy by that name. Deceptive business practices now sit under Prohibited Commercial Practices, which covers misleading pricing, products that differ from the ad, hidden subscription terms, unauthorized charges and unhonored refunds. Most of those live on your landing page and checkout, so fix the destination before the headline.
This rejection arrives attached to an ad but describes the business behind it, which is why a rewritten headline can leave the cause untouched. The practices Meta names, from misleading prices to subscriptions sold without clear terms, mostly happen after the click. Meta also counts what customers tell it after buying. So the order of work is the landing page and checkout, then your customer experience, and only then the ad.

Is “unacceptable business practices” still a Meta policy?
Not by that name. Meta’s Advertising Standards, checked on 1 October 2026, list no policy called Unacceptable Business Practices. The ad standard that covers deceptive business conduct is Prohibited Commercial Practices, which says ads must comply with the Community Standard of the same name. It gives deceptive pricing, unauthorized endorsements and guaranteed investment returns as examples. Whatever your notice calls it, that is the page to read your ad against.
What does Meta’s prohibited commercial practices rule cover?
The Community Standard lists the practices it enforces against using customer feedback; the last row comes from the ad standard. In a D2C store they look like this:
| Practice (Meta’s term) | What it looks like in a store | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Misleading or unreasonable pricing | The price or discount in the creative is not what the product page or checkout charges | Landing page, checkout |
| Product misrepresentation | The product delivered differs materially from the ad, including in quality, or the wrong item arrives | Product, fulfilment |
| Deceptive subscription practices | Customers are enrolled in recurring payments without clear disclosure of the terms | Checkout |
| Unauthorized charges | A payment method is charged without prior authorization or clear disclosure | Checkout, billing |
| Refund or return policy not honored | The stated refund or return policy is not followed | Customer service |
| Non-delivery | Purchased products are not delivered after payment | Fulfilment |
| Disguised links | A link that looks like a legitimate store but leads to a scam site | Ad destination |
| Unauthorized endorsements (from the ad standard) | A brand or celebrity endorsement the person never gave | Ad creative |
Almost every row sits after the click. That is the most useful thing to know about this rejection: the concern is the business, and the ad is where the notice appears.
How does Meta decide a business is deceptive?
Through its own detection, reports from trusted entities, and customer feedback. Meta says it looks for consistent patterns or disproportionate volumes of negative feedback, shares relevant feedback with advertisers, and, where negative feedback persists despite warnings, may restrict or disable the accounts responsible. Its possible actions include removing ads, reducing distribution, restricting advertising accounts, requiring verification and disabling accounts (Prohibited Commercial Practices).
The feedback is collected at scale: Meta says its post-ad customer survey gathers over 200 million responses a year, and that advertisers with positive feedback can see better performance (Best practices for positive customer feedback). Business Support Home shows your feedback score (About Meta Business Support Home).
How do I fix an unacceptable business practices rejection?
- Open Business Support Home, read which policy the rejection names, and review your feedback score.
- Load your landing page as a stranger would: on a phone, signed out, with no earlier session.
- Reconcile every claim in the creative with the page and checkout: price, discount, product, delivery time and subscription terms.
- Fix what Meta lists in its customer-feedback guidance: accurate product photos and sizes, full shipping times including handling, honored returns, and clear notice of subscription renewals.
- Check Account status overview in Business Support Home for restrictions on the ad account, Page or business portfolio.
- Edit the ad once the destination matches, so it goes back through review, or request a review if you believe the ad already complied.
Meta aims to decide a review request within 48 hours and allows one re-review per ad; the full process is in Facebook ad rejected, how do I appeal?
Is the flag on the ad or the whole account?
It can be either. A single ad can be rejected, and Meta can also restrict a business portfolio, ad account, Page or personal profile when violations are severe or repeated (How to troubleshoot a rejected ad; restriction types in About advertising restrictions). If several unrelated ads are rejected at once, read that as a sign the cause sits with the account or domain, and check Account status overview before resubmitting individual ads. Meta also says that repeated policy-violating or low-quality ads can lead its systems to treat all ads from the same Page, domain or ad account as lower quality (About ad quality).
Can software help?
Bach.ai connects to your Meta ad account, audits it and estimates the revenue impact of what it finds. Its audit reports a disapproved ad as a policy blocker, separately from delivery stops such as billing, so a rejection is not mistaken for weak performance. It applies changes on Meta only after you approve them. It does not fix your checkout or refund handling. For the rest of the account, use the Meta ads audit checklist.
FAQ
Does rewriting the ad fix an unacceptable business practices rejection?
Only when the cause is in the ad itself, such as a misleading price or an endorsement the person never gave. Most practices Meta lists, including misrepresented products, hidden subscription terms, unauthorized charges and unhonored refunds, happen after the click, so a copy change leaves them untouched.
Is this rejection account-level or ad-level?
It can be either. Meta rejects individual ads, and where negative customer feedback persists despite warnings, it says it may restrict or disable the accounts responsible. Several unrelated ads rejected at once points to the account or domain, so check Account status overview in Business Support Home.
What should I check first after this rejection?
The landing page and checkout, viewed as a new visitor on a phone. Reconcile price, discount, product, delivery time and subscription terms against the ad. Then check your feedback score in Business Support Home, because Meta enforces this policy partly on what customers report after buying.
Can customer complaints get my ad account restricted?
Yes. Meta says it considers consistent patterns or disproportionate volumes of negative feedback, shares that feedback with advertisers, and may restrict or disable accounts where it persists despite warnings. The fix is operational: accurate listings, realistic shipping times, honored refunds and clear subscription terms.
