How Many Ad Accounts Can a Meta Business Have?
How many ad accounts can a Meta business portfolio have?
There is no single number. Meta gives each business portfolio its own ad account creation limit, shown under Business info in Meta Business Suite settings. A new portfolio can create one ad account, rising to three after a campaign delivers and a payment is made, and Meta adjusts it further based on spend and use of existing accounts.
Meta does not publish one cap for every business. Each portfolio has its own ad account creation limit: one account to start, three once a campaign has delivered and been paid for, and more as spend and use of your accounts grow. The better question is whether a new account solves your problem, because every account you create stays in the portfolio and counts against the limit, even after you close it.
Why is there no single ad account limit?
Meta says that for safety and security reasons each business portfolio may create only a certain number of ad accounts, and it shows that number per portfolio rather than as a global rule (Find your business portfolio’s ad account limit). The limit moves. Meta says it generally adjusts your ad account limit based on historical spending and use of existing ad accounts (Troubleshoot issues with creating a new ad account), and that your limit increases based on your advertising spend (Add an ad account to your business portfolio).
So two businesses can see very different numbers on the same day. A figure quoted in a forum is someone else’s limit, not yours.
Which ad account limits does Meta publish?
These are the fixed numbers Meta states, as of 2 Oct 2026:
| Limit | Meta’s number | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Ad accounts a new portfolio can create | 1, until a confirmed payment | Each business portfolio (Ad account limits) |
| Ad accounts after the first campaign delivers and is paid | 3 | Each business portfolio (Add an ad account) |
| Ad accounts one person can manage | 25 | Each person |
| People assigned to one ad account | 25 | Each ad account |
| Business portfolios one person can create | 2 | Each person (Create a business portfolio) |
Above three, the number is the one Meta assigns to your portfolio. For what a portfolio is and who can manage it, see what is a Meta business portfolio? If you hit the 25-account or 25-person limits, Meta says to remove yourself, or have someone with full control remove you, from ad accounts you no longer use.
How do I find my portfolio’s ad account limit?
Only someone with full control of the business portfolio can see it (Find your business portfolio’s ad account limit):
- Open Settings in Meta Business Suite on a desktop browser.
- Click Business info in the left menu. If you can’t see it, you may not have full control of the portfolio.
- Read the number below Ad account creation limit.
- Compare it with the count under Accounts, then Ad accounts, remembering that closed accounts are included.
What counts against the ad account limit?
More than you might expect. Meta says:
- Closed ad accounts still count. Closing an ad account doesn’t remove it from the business portfolio, and a closed account still counts toward the limit (Ad account limits).
- Accounts disabled for inactivity count. Ad accounts disabled after 60 days without usage or spend also count, and Meta points to reactivating them (Troubleshoot issues with creating a new ad account).
- Created accounts are permanent. An ad account created inside a portfolio is permanently part of it and can’t be deleted or transferred out. Claiming an existing account may also move it in permanently (Add an ad account to your business portfolio).
Ad accounts shared with you by another portfolio stay in their owner’s portfolio; Meta says the account remains with the owner and access is shared. You can deactivate an account you no longer use, which stops its campaigns and keeps its history, but it stays in the portfolio (Deactivate an ad account that’s in a business portfolio).
Why can’t I create a new ad account?
Meta gives three reasons: you have reached your limit, an existing ad account is in bad standing, or you lack full control of the portfolio (Troubleshoot issues with creating a new ad account). Work through them in this order:
- Check whether you have reached the limit: compare the Ad account creation limit in Business info with your ad accounts, closed ones included.
- Check Business Support Home for an existing ad account in bad standing, which Meta lists as a separate reason.
- Confirm you have full control of the business portfolio; without it you can’t create or add ad accounts.
- Reuse an existing account with no active campaigns, as Meta suggests, or reactivate one closed for inactivity.
- Contact your Meta sales representative, if you have one, or support through Business Support Home.
Meta also notes that a new portfolio or ad account may not have access to every advertising feature at first; Business Support Home shows what is unlocked and what to do next.
When should you open a second ad account?
A second account is worth its slot when something about the account itself must differ:
- A different time zone or currency. Meta asks for both when you create an ad account (Add an ad account to your business portfolio), so a second market with its own currency is a clear reason.
- A different client. When creating the account you choose My business or Another business or client. Meta’s other route for an agency is to request shared access to the client’s own account, which keeps it in the client’s portfolio; see what Meta ads tool should an agency use for multiple clients?
- Separate billing. Each ad account has its own payment info, so a separate budget owner can pay separately.
Do not open one to get around enforcement. Meta lists creating new ad accounts or other business assets to repeat violations, after existing accounts were disabled, as evading enforcement, and it can restrict the business portfolio, ad account, Page or user for it (Common examples of Meta advertising policy violations). If an account was disabled, follow what should I do first when Meta disables my ad account? instead. Before splitting spend across accounts, review the campaign structure section of the Meta ads audit checklist.
FAQ
Do closed ad accounts count toward my limit?
Yes. Meta says closing an ad account doesn’t delete it from your business portfolio, and a closed ad account still counts toward your ad account limit. Accounts disabled after 60 days without usage or spend also count.
Can I delete an ad account from my business portfolio?
No. Meta says an ad account created in a business portfolio is permanently part of it and can’t be deleted or transferred. You can deactivate it, which stops its campaigns and removes its payment methods after any balance is charged, but it stays in the portfolio and in your count.
How many ad accounts can one person manage?
Meta says one person can manage up to 25 ad accounts, and one ad account can be assigned to up to 25 people. If you reach either limit, remove yourself from accounts you no longer use, or ask someone with full control of the portfolio to remove your access.
How do I raise my ad account limit?
Meta doesn’t describe a way to request a higher limit. It says it adjusts the limit based on historical spending and the use of existing ad accounts, and the first increase, from one to three, comes after a campaign delivers and a payment is made. If you have a sales representative, Meta suggests contacting them.
